Wonderful Wordy Wednesday

Image
Hello to the end of September. Fall weather is here, have had some lovely sunny days to be followed by a few rainy ones. Good days either way for reading.  I have my Halloween wind socks out and the fall wreath on the door. Haven't gotten any inside Halloween decorations out just yet, my black magic cats or pumpkins. Will have to see what Dobby thinks of all of the changes that will happen with fall stuff and Christmas. I have no idea how his past human may have done things.   Baseball playoffs are starting, but my team, The Brewers don't play until Saturday. So not watching the games, but paying attention to who is winning. I saw on meme for "The Papal Series" The Chicago White Sox versus the San Diego Padres in the World Series. For those who are not aware the Pope is from Chicago and a White Sox Fan.  Have been fighting off a cold the past few days, improving but still coughing the crud draining from my sinuses. Not sleeping great and making noises when I breathe....

Pink & Pages for Dolly

Image
I like books, always have and have tried to share my love of reading with all of you. Dolly Parton worked hard during her lifetime to ensure that others had opportunities to learn to read, and the books to read. Her father didn't or couldn't read. I come from a family of readers.  Don't forget to donate to her Imagination Library. Keep the reading coming. I have donated already and may add this to my regular group of charities that I donate to. Like on her birthday on January 19 and again here on 9-2-5 day.   Now I don't have much pink in my wardrobe but I will find something to wear today that has pink in it.

A good sporting week so far. The Packers managed to eke out a win in overtime on Sunday. Baseball, the Brewers have set a new high for season wins with 98, beating out last years 97. Still have more games to play.  Weather is much cooler, less humid and so nice out to me. Some might like it hot, not me. I even called to make an appointment to get the furnace tuned up for the winter.  Next door neighbor is getting a new roof put on. We had bad hail storms over the spring and summer. I know many of the roofs are 20+ years old so need to be redone. At least all of the houses nearest to me have been done. Even the street construction on the block behind me is getting closer to being done. They did the curb and gutter late last week. Just need the pavement now.    Deadly Trade - Meg and Todd are on their Hawaiian honeymoon and Hawk is along on the trip. On a hike through a protected fern forest they come across poachers, they work with the local FBI office and Wildl...

Crochet Time

Image
Back at it again making lap robes. I finished up making hats in July and gave my hands a rest for a month or so. Plus it was way too hot to have a pile of yarn in my lap to be working on things. I am trying to not get too crazy with timelines in finishing things either.  Yarn is from Herrschnerr's Color Tiara from their baby yarn collection. A mix of white, pink, blue, yellow and green. Nice pastel baby type colors.   Weather is now nice for having a lap full of yarn, plus a cat who wants to sit on me too. Nice way to stay a bit warm. The AC isn't running and I don't even need to run the fans. I do also have to start thinking about fall clean up and what needs to be cut down and hauled off. Don't have much to do.  Also need to start getting the regular bird feeders cleaned and filled. I let them go for the summer, for a change. I know I need to get more suet cakes but waiting for a sale.   The inspector laying down on the job! My guest bed is where I take m...

NFL football has started. Dobby experienced his first game here, with me yelling at the TV. Any other sport I don't do much yelling, but Packer games, yeah, I yell. I was not happy with some of the officiating. That is all I will say.   Dobby survived, he wasn't sitting near me during the game. During the part of the Monday night game I watched he was on the back of the chair.  The weather has turned fall like. Much cooler, less humid. I woke up on Monday and the thermometer said 48F! Plus it is a bit rainy this week.  We tried the library trivia again on Monday and weren't impressed, again. They asked for feedback after the first one, but they did change anything. They had a decent turn out but the one at the local bar is more fun. We end up scoring about the same at both places. The bar is also more fun as we can flirt with the cute wait staff guys.   Wrecked - looks at the economic impact of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald while trying to bring pol...

Patriot Day

Image
Commemorating the day so many lives were lost in the terrorism attacks in the United States twenty five years ago.   I am sure that those of us who are old enough to remember that day have clear memories of what happened. Not just at the actual sites, but what happened to us during our daily routine. Or rather lack of routine. I remember a hectic and weird day, where I was at work, but didn't actually do much work. Trying to fathom all that occurred and why.  I knew a few people in the airline industry, pilot and flight attendant. Both were safe. Plus a couple of people who were often at the Pentagon, also both safe. Even today thoughts of that day are overwhelming.  Love and hugs to all who were involved.

Things are starting to change, the humidity is dropping as is the temperature. It may be another week before we get what I call nice fall weather. That would be cool not humid.  I was looking at a website I check for sun and moon rising and setting data. At the beginning of the month we had 13 hours and 13minutes of possible daylight. At the end of the month, just 11 hours and 49 minutes! Wow, losing a bunch of daylight in one month. The other night it was so dark out I figured it was bedtime, it was only 8:30!  School is fully in session now for all students. I haven't been out early enough in the morning to see a change in traffic patterns. I know my route to my doctor's office goes by a school, so I try not to schedule things where I get caught in the drop off lines.  Pro football season starts with a game tonight. Plus the end of the baseball season. Good thoughts for the Packers and hoping the Brewers make it to the post season. Less reading time, gotta watch my game...

Happy Birthday Dobby

Image
Dobby is seven, yes 7, years old today. I adopted an older cat this time instead of a young guy around a year old.  He is a bit stubborn, hard to get into a carrier, or give meds to, but I love the dear boy anyway.

Hello September, Hello Fall. Although by the weather you wouldn't think of fall. Very warm, very humid, no crisp days of coolness right now. I don't envy the kids who are back in school, dragging themselves through the day with hot temperatures. Wishing they could be outside, not inside.  That time of year to get out an get a library card, although I am sure those of you who read this blog all have a library card. I have probably had a library card since I was six years old, so over 90 percent of my lifetime.        Eaves of Destruction - Lighthouse Cove is having their annual Victoria Home and Garden Tour. Everyone wants to win so Shannon is in demand to get work done. She ends up with a rather bossy client who wants everything done yesterday. To keep up with demand Shannon hires a new carpenter, she does great work, but may have a connection with the client. The wrench in all of this is a building inspector who is into things he shouldn't be and ends up dead....
