Dobby Time

Image
Dobby got to go on a car ride on Tuesday. Off to see Dr M as his ears have been bothering him again. They got cleaned out in May, but the yeast is back.    I also have medicine to attempt to get in his ears twice a day. Not having much success with that. If all else fails he will be having a trip to see Dr M at least once a month so she can work on his ears.  I bought a new carrier for him as well, lighter for me to carry since I have a big boy cat to cart around. He was given gabapentin which made it easier for me to get him into the carrier. The ends zip open and I put him in head first and shoved his back side after him.   I got a cool picture of him the other night, staring into the lamp shade. I finally saw that there was a tiny green bug in their.  Everyone have a good weekend.

Ack, the last week of August. All of the schools will be back in session next week. Some of the private schools have already started, but the full bus runs, parent's taking kids to school will start. That means I need to watch the routes I take that might take me past a school.  Like everyone the death of Dolly Parton has been hard to take. She was one of those people who you expected to live forever. Her giving nature was a blessing to everyone. As the sign says the best way to honor her memory would be to donate to the Imagination Library.     https://donate.imaginationlibrary.com/ A Grave Deception - a preserved body is found at an archeological dig that is probably 700 years old. Who was she? Also to look into the plague pit from the same time era. Interference comes when the death of the dig leader and the remains of another body of a more recent death. Lots of twists and turns. Bad news is that this is currently the last book in the series, so now I wait until...

Dobby Time

Dobby has been here five months now. He sleeps on my bed every night too. Not always next to me, but somewhere on my bed. Sometimes taking over the bed! I launder my sheets every week and when they come out of the dryer there is cat fur in the lint filter. I thought I should wash the blanket but I put it through the dryer first to get the excess fur off before washing. The filter was FULL! Washed, dried and the filter was full again. Guess I need to do the blanket more often.   Lunch the other day was a success. Good lunch with lots of time to catch up. We ate at a place that is in a building from the 1840s. At one point it was a spot on the Underground Railroad. My friend drove and it was nice to be the passenger for a change. Get a chance to view the scenery instead of watching traffic! Woke up early on Thursday, so I opened the front window so Dobby could get his share of fresh air. I could go back to bed and stretch out without a cat hogging the bed! Nice to be getting wea...

Our primary election was last week Tuesday. I had hoped for maybe a few days of no political commercials. That would be a big fat NO! The continued lies and distortions are crazy, mostly coming from third party groups, not the actual candidates. I will continue to watch TV the way I usually do, record it and fast forward through the commercials. Watching minimal TV news as well.  Today is a scheduled lunch date with a few of my long time friends from our car racing. None of us are doing many events anymore, age, mobility and various health issues keep us at home. Looking forward to catching up with everyone.  Some crazy weather on Tuesday evening. Severe weather warnings, thunderstorms and tornados. I had brief heavy rain and wind for maybe a minute or two. No damage here.   The humidity is getting lower which makes it easier to be outside. I actually grilled on Sunday evening, even though it was still a bit humid. I had a craving for grilled food. One thing I am bum...

Crochet Time - For Me!

Yes, I do make things for myself when I need to. Not everything is donated! Last fall I bought myself a new winter fleece jacket and needed a hat that would match.  I stopped at a higher end yarn shop and bought the two colors below. The jacket is the background. I bought two skeins of each color, knowing that one hat would use maybe half of a skein.  I used the color on the left to make the first hat last fall shortly after I got the yarn and put the others on the shelf for later.    So later arrived and I wanted to use up the yarn for me and I was going to do more hats. I did a bit of a combo to make the hats. Here are the two  different yarns rolled into balls.                                                                Here are the combo hats. The top one is a combo using the predominantly blue ske...

So far this year I have read 104 books and working on 105. Weather has been good but even so I have been inside reading. This week the temperatures are maxing out around 80F which is just fine with me, it is still humid out.   Last Saturday as I went out to spray the wasps that had decided to try to live in my back doorway and patio box, I saw a lovely lady monarch butterfly. There is some milkweed just around the corner if you need something to eat or want to lay some eggs to make more butterflies.   We met for trivia this week and had our usual results. There were only three teams so everyone was going to get a prize. We ended up with best team name, "The Space Cadets" as we all seemed to be spacing out at times. I opened my purse and thought I had forgotten my phone when it was sitting right in front of me. We wrote an answer down wrong, writing down the question not the answer. Oh well, as always we had fun.  Why so few teams? We think because State Fair is ...

Crochet Time - Kids Hats - Batch 4

The dog days of summer, warmish, a bit humid, lazy days. No ambition to do much either. Reading, playing games on the iPad. Watching the guys mow the lawn. It rained enough last week that the grass got green and grew a little bit.  Down to the last bits left. I like being able to use up ALL of the yarn in some way, blanket, hats. Nothing gets wasted, which is what I like. Something useful made from every last fiber! The hat below was the last one done. It is a combo of four different yarn bits. The off white tip, blue/purple, medium brown, green, and back to the medium brown. The leftovers are used up! Isn't that the truth. Maybe if I could get into audio books I could, but I have a tendency to tune out on audio books. Like I do with the radio, it becomes background noise.     Happy Weekend.

Made it to August! For some the beginning of school very soon, or at least getting prepared for it. School supply sales at all the stores. I checked, I have enough pens and papers to hold me for another year or so.  We did get more rain last week, over 3 inches in my rain gauge, so my grass is looking green again. The next time the lawn service shows up they can actually mow it! Weather is for the most part warm and a little humid, with a day here and there of coolness. I did see a tree yesterday that the leaves looked to be turning, but that might be from stress of so little rain in early July.  Another of the houses is getting a new roof. They showed up on Tuesday AM and started taking off the old shingles. It is the same group that did the other house a month ago. Interesting is that they put out a sign that says "X company" is doing the contracting, but the trucks all say a different company name. Do they subcontract our their jobs? I personally don't like that, I wan...
