Happy Friday! Thankful that the weather has been quiet for the past week and things are drying out. The grass has been growing so I hauled out the lawn mower and evened out the areas that were getting shaggy. Need to do some pruning on the trumpet vine and the one lilac too.  We have had nice weather which means the windows have been open. I like it and so does Dobby. He is getting better with the carrier, that is where he gets his daily treats.   Getting towards the end of crochet season, at least for blankets. I have one I am working on and then one more to go for the spring. Then I can refill my shelves. I will have used the rest of the yarn on the right hand shelves.  This blanket is made with  Arcade Party from Big Twist. I have used this color before, lots of bright primary colors.      Happy Weekend.

Thankfully the storms ended on late Friday, along with all of the rain. Slowly drying out with sunny and cooler conditions. Grass is growing like crazy, so it will be time to start mowing the lawn for the year.  Megan mentioned in a comment last week that she could check out up to 30 books at a time. I think my library has a limit like that too. For a person who is just reading, no way could I read 30 books within the typical check out period of three weeks, even with renewing them. I think that is more for students who need to check out lots of materials so they can write papers for school.  However, with a bit of digging I found the following  "The total number of physical checkouts allowed per card at any given time is 250." WOW! Our check out period is three weeks and you can renew them three more times at three weeks each. So a total of twelve weeks. However you can't renew a book if there is a hold on it. My typical checkout is 7-9 books at a time and I can get thro...

It has been a long week. Severe weather with thunderstorms and a nearby tornado. Over 5 inches of rain this week alone and overall this month double what we would normally get for the entire month. One fatality, he was struck by lightning on Wednesday night.  The guy was walking in a parking lot to his truck. Thankfully no damage here and also to none of my friends. Lots of flooding, especially streets.  Amazing to watch all the stupid drivers who drive through flooded streets. Then are dumbfounded when their car dies on them. Thousands of dollars in damage to get the car engine working and the car cleaned out too.  Still working on crochet projects for the time being. This one is Happy Rainbow yarn from Big Twist, bright pastel colors. Would make a great baby or kid blanket.  Dobby is doing well, he did not freak out with the storms this week. Also he branched out and didn't sleep on my bed a couple of nights. Maybe he did sleep there but just wasn't there when I wo...

Happy Tax Day in the US. Hope everyone has filed, maybe gotten a refund or at least requested an extension. My brain is fried, we have had two bouts of severe weather. Bad thunderstorms, lots of rain, hail and even one tornado about 6 miles west of me. Other than lots of rain and small hail I am OK.  First round went through Tuesday AM between 1-2 AM so that interrupted my sleep. Second round, which was more severe was 6-10 PM. Since I am doing this late on Tuesday PM I haven't been able to read my rain gauge but I am expecting at least 2 inches.  More storms coming and I need a really good night of sleep. Thankful that Dobby didn't seem to freak out with the thunder and hail noise.   Foreign Eclairs - A bombing and attempted jail break alerts Ollie that the terrorist brother is back for vengeance. Ollie is mugged, another White House employee is murdered and even the First Family isn't safe. While some of the gang is captured the leader won't give up. Ollie is give...

I am bummed, less than two weeks into this new blog and I get a comment that I had to delete. On the old blog I had comment moderation set up so that nothing showed until I had reviewed it. I was hoping with a new blog that I might have some time before that happened. Guess not. For now I will leave moderation off, but may need to put it back on.  Added 4/10/26 8 AM - Comment moderation is back on. I got six comments all from the same place. I did report them to Blogger, their ID said they had only been on Blogger since last month.   I am bummed as I seemed to have lost a few readers with the move. Even though I published the new link. Miss you guys! Dobby and I are at an impass of sorts. While he made himself scarce the day of his vet visit I figured I should see how well he would go into the carrier. NOT WELL! I tried twice and he spent a good deal of time in the basement hiding. We seem to be rebonding and I have to get him to accept the carrier, even if it is with bri...

Hope everyone had a good Easter and Passover. Quiet here, I grilled a burger for myself for dinner. Did some additional cooking on Saturday making skillet cornbread and Sherried Tomato Soup. Yummy stuff and leftovers for more meals.  Winter weather doesn't want to give up. We get a few nice days, then back to below typical temperatures. Central part of Wisconsin had an ice storm last week and the city I grew up in got hit pretty hard. Power out for hours and quarter to half inch of ice on trees. Lots of trees damaged.   Dobby was supposed to have his first vet visit on Tuesday at 7 PM. I went to check the litter box for a fecal sample to take. When I came upstairs I could not find him, this was around 6 PM. I went through the house several times, checking high and low to find him. Nothing. I hadn't opened any doors to closets, checked under the beds. Checked the basement too, didn't see him. I called to cancel the appointment. Dobby reappeared just before 7 PM. Returning ...

Crochet Time

It is Friday and in the liturgical calendar it is Good Friday. The Friday before Easter Sunday. Growing up this always meant church service in the afternoon, usually a long service with communion.  Dobby is doing well, I can't believe how quickly he has settled in and how comfortable he seems to be from his first days here. He will see the vet next week, so we will see what she says about him.  Doing his loaf impression on the bed.  Neon Lights from Big Twist. Nice bright primary colors.     This is actually my closet at the end of March. It is rather empty at the moment but I want to wait to buy when the company has a promo where they have a special on shipping for a set price for the entire order. Otherwise the cost of shipping is 10 percent of the value of the order and I plan to buy lots of yarn. I want to finish using the final three yarns on the right side.  Happy Weekend.  Happy Easter.

Hello and No Fooling. Here is the updated separate blog for just books and  yarn and what ever else I get into. The Just Ducky blog will remain as an archive for all things. I do get nostalgic for the early days with the boys sometimes and just go back and read posts.  Dobby is settled in and has the run of the entire house now. He continues to sleep at the end of my bed every night. He plays with small toys that he can bat around and pounce on.  Weather is getting better. We get one really nice day followed by typical temperatures for the season. Birds are singing, the chipmunks are out of hibernation. Flowers are starting to grow and bloom.  With nicer weather means I have things I should be doing outside, like picking up fallen branches from the trees. Cutting back old growth on various plants as well. Should get the lawn mower to the shop to get the blade sharpened. Grass isn't grown enough for mowing, but then I am prepared. Haven't swapped the snow blower and ...
