BOOKS, HOOKS AND YARN

I went shopping! Online from the comfort of my recliner. I  finally found a good offer on shipping. Twenty five cents for the entire order, as long as the order was for more than $35 dollars. I was over that. Way over! The items all came on the same day, but in three different boxes.     It took time to match everything in the boxes to what I ordered and what was on the packing lists. Once done I found one item missing, but that was one I knew was going to be back ordered for a few weeks.  Dobby checking things out, what happened to all those open shelves I saw just a few weeks ago? Yeah, the shelves are full and there are a few items in one box you can't see.  Dobby hasn't shown that he is much of a box kitty. He did go inside one of the larger boxes for a few minutes. It has finally warmed up! The past few days have been great, warm with no humidity. Dobby and I have both been enjoying the open windows. Maybe, finally the furnace can be off until the fall.  Lately while it has been nice we have had minimal rain, which is nice as the grass isn't growing quickly which means I don't have to mow the lawn as often. I like that, I can be lazy for a bit.  Which means with less time spent on lawn care means I have more time to read. I think all of my usual TV shows are done for the summer, so more time to read. Still have to make time to watch baseball, local team, The Milwaukee Brewers, are in first place and playing very well.   Death in Brittany - new detective series written by a French author and translated to English. Hat sorting, not from Harry Potter, but me, sorting out the leftover yarn into piles to make hats. This is a great and useful way to use up the leftover yarn after making blankets. This year I didn't purchase any just to make hats from, just using leftovers.  I try to make a variety of hats, kids to adults. I need at least 2 ounces of yarn to make an adult hat, 1.5 ounces for a kids hat. Below is one of three bags of leftover yarn that I can use for hats.  Haul out the digital kitchen scale and start weighing the balls of yarn. This first one will need some additional neutral yarn to make a hat. The second one should be good for one kid hat.  Yeah, one ball that will be good for an adult size hat.    Three bags sorted by remaining weights. Odds and ends, at least 1.5 ounces in the middle, and the largest on the right.  As I make hats I weight what is left and put it in the appropriate bag until I get everything used up. Megan had so many comments a week or two ago I need to respond. I didn't get into the George Cross books, not the story as much as the writing style. I have watched the show Professor T and like it.   Dobby has a very expressive tail. I knew he was doing well here when is tail is up. His tails also has a tendency to curl over at the end like a question mark. Dobby has been here now for two months! Weather has been up and down when it comes to temperature. Heat has been on until last weekend. I have long sleeves on as well, socks too. I can't wait until things warm up and stay warm. Our car event last weekend it was 84F on Saturday, 56F on Sunday. I did get to the garden store this week and buy a few annuals, they shouldn't freeze anymore. Once I finished my last lap robe the yarn stash was down to bare minimum. I had decided to make an order with Herrschnerr's as they have a nice variety of yarn colors and at decent prices. Only thing is that shipping costs add up. The catalog said it would be 10% of the order. I know that periodically they do shipping specials. So I wait until I get a good one!  The items on the left are colors that I have already done a blanket in these colors in the past year. Or a few items that are for me to make winter hats for me. There are colors for four different blankets, plus two large skeins of neutrals to use as needed when making hats.    Dobby got a boost up to a shelf so he could look around.    Good to explore! We both survived his vet trip this week on Wednesday. He again didn't want to get into the carrier even with bribes. I did corral him and get him in, then called as I was driving to the office to let them know I might be a few minutes late. I arrived...

Finally caught up to where I haven't actually finished the books I am reading that I would be posting on. So no books this week.   What to do instead? How about some pics of Dobby! While I had most of the yarn shelves open Dobby wanted to check things out in the closet.  Dobby at the vet last week, he did OK. He had a yeast infection in his ears so that has meant squirting medicine into his ears. Or at least trying to squirt medicine in his ears. He has a recheck with the vet today.  Picture in the waiting area, they do have cute pictures around the office, even in the exam rooms.   Books return next week!

A week into May, still quite cool. I had turned the furnace off, but when the inside temperature dropped into the upper 50s I turned the furnace back on. I am wearing a jacket outside, even when doing yard work. I am not overheating.  Jade Speckle from Red Heart Yarn. This is the final blanket until fall. Although we have had some cooler weather this is actually the last of the yarn! Yes, I got through my stash. I did have some additional yarn, but I don't duplicate colors during the donation year and what I still had I had already done.  While this is the last blanket, hats making has been started.    Want to acknowledge the loss of a good blogging friend Jackie Avery. While we never met face to face, there was a connection of being fellow cat mom's to some wonderful ginger cats. Now reunited with Eric and Flynn, but husband Ivor is left behind.   Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there. Mom to two legged or four legged kids. With and without fur!
