Wonderful Wordy Wednesday

Happy Tax Day in the US. Hope everyone has filed, maybe gotten a refund or at least requested an extension.

My brain is fried, we have had two bouts of severe weather. Bad thunderstorms, lots of rain, hail and even one tornado about 6 miles west of me. Other than lots of rain and small hail I am OK.

First round went through Tuesday AM between 1-2 AM so that interrupted my sleep. Second round, which was more severe was 6-10 PM. Since I am doing this late on Tuesday PM I haven't been able to read my rain gauge but I am expecting at least 2 inches.

More storms coming and I need a really good night of sleep. Thankful that Dobby didn't seem to freak out with the thunder and hail noise.

Foreign Eclairs - A bombing and attempted jail break alerts Ollie that the terrorist brother is back for vengeance. Ollie is mugged, another White House employee is murdered and even the First Family isn't safe. While some of the gang is captured the leader won't give up. Ollie is given a choice to enter the witness protection program with husband Gav. Will she do it? FYI, this is the last book of the series, so we will never know!

The End Game - Brit in the FBI book. Celebrants of the Earth is a violent group known for bombing power stations and oil refineries. The latest bombing includes fatalities. Are they changing tactics or do they have a new objective? The various moves are compared to a chess match and each of the 82 chapters has a chess move noted. Why 82 and why theses specific moves? Took the moves from a 1956 chess match called "The Game of the Century".

The Audition - an accomplished actress, a man young enough to be her son. What are they to each other? Muse, parent, creator or something else?

The Art of Betrayal - next installment of the Kate Hamilton mysteries. Kate has stayed in the UK to watch over Ivor's shop while he recovers from hip replacement surgery. A strange woman comes into the shop with a rare Chinese urn. Then during the May Fair the shop is broken into, the urn stolen and the strange woman is found stabbed. Oh my, what the heck is going on?!

To Darkness and to Death - one very long and scary day. 5 AM, a missing woman, later a woman badly beaten. A recluse owner to transfer of 250K of time, employees who may have a grudge. It is Russ's 50th birthday and things end with a bang.

The Last Thing He Told Me - Owen, his wife Hannah and his teenage daughter Bailey living a nice life in Sausalito, CA. One day Hannah gets a note from her husband "Protect Her". Bailey comes home from school with a duffel bag full of money. Then the news, the company Owen works is under investigation by the SEC, the CEO arrested. Owen has disappeared and Hannah wants to know why. Is he guilty or is it something else? Lots of twists and turns in this one.

The Things We Do in the Dark - Paris Peralta is married to a man 30 years older than her. He is an aging comedian-actor who is staging a comeback in his late 60s. Paris arrives home from an out of town trip to find her husband dead in a bathtub full of water and blood. She passes out. When she awakes the police are there arresting her for murder. She didn't do this but she does have her past to keep hidden. Can she do that?

 Happy Reading

  1. Am glad you are making your way through the Brit in the FBI series; I liked them!
Have been working on whittling down my TBR list, by removing some that have been there too long and don't interest me anymore, and series that are so big that starting them now would take up the rest of the year, if I could even find all of them.
AND so many of my current series have new titles coming out in a row; it's crazy to have such a wealth in reading material.

  2. Down here in Chicago they were reporting a tornado touchdown in Kenosha, but I wasn’t sure how close that was to you. 6 miles away from it is too close for comfort! Glad you and Dobby are OK.

  5. My local library allows me to borrow up to 30 books. I've never got to the limit as I don't think I'd get through 30 in the three-week loan period. LOL
