Wonderful Wordy Wednesday
At the end of April already. Things are getting much greener, trees leafing out and my crab apple is ready to bloom. Saw a hummingbird at the feeder late last week and have the Oriole feeder with jelly out already too. Although once the jelly is out the robins get very possessive about it.
After a long break we got together for trivia. Five teams, we were third with 61 points but the winner only had 68. Lots of stuff on this week that we had not clue, Super Mario stuff, Lego reproductions of movie scenes. Also got to see our favorite waiter and have a nice chat. He was in to work a private group and then they didn't show! So he would be missing out on a huge tip night. He also turns 21 next week, he is such a cutie!
A bit less time to read these days. Doing the yard work that needs to be done now. Brush pickup is soon, so have to get the pruning done. Let the village come pick it up, instead of me hauling it away!
This Old Homicide - the second installment of the Fixer-Upper Mysteries. Shannon's neighbor is found dead and an expensive necklace he had is missing. Was he murdered? Was the necklace stolen?
The Rushworth Family Plot - another installment of crimes solved by the offspring of various Pride & Prejudice characters. The first few books were more entertaining than this one. I wonder if the author will continue the series.
The Dentist - the first installment in a series of a British policeman, DS George Cross. Cross is on the autism spectrum so his methods and mannerism are to some off putting. Dealing with the death of a homeless man who died after a struggle.
In the Woods - in 1984 three kids outside Dublin go into the woods. When they don't come home a search is started. Only one of the three is found, catatonic, unable to recall the last few hours. Twenty years later the survivor is a detective on a case of a girl who is found murdered in the same area. Can he solve this case and also what happened to him?
False Claims - Author was a pharma sales rep for a company called Questcor. They have a drug that is used to treat multiple sclerosis (MS) but she feels that she is being pushed to sell the drug to doctors to use on patients in an inappropriate manner. What is often referred to as "off label". By day she is selling, by night working with attorneys and the Department of Justice providing inside information on the corruption within the company.
All This Could Be Yours - I read this book back in January and didn't catch the duplicate on my list. Here is what I mentioned last month about the book. Tessa leaves a corporate trainer job wanting something more. Three years later she is a best selling author on a book tour. One thing she seems to have gained is a stalker. Every stop there is someone asking very personal questions, things go missing etc. An ending I wouldn't have predicted!
The Shadow of Memory - the next Kate Hamilton mystery. Kate and Ivor are asked to help authenticate a Jan van Eyck painting from an old mental hospital. However a few strange things are happening like old friends who keep being found dead. Tom and Kate make their engagement official.
I Shall Not Want - continuing story of Rev Clare Fergusson and Sheriff Russ Van Alsytne. Clare has joined the National Guard, not as a chaplain but as a helicopter pilot to absorb some of her time. She and Russ have been staying apart for months. What brings them back together is trouble with immigrant laborers and drug trafficking. Clare gets a surprising order at the end.
Happy Reading.
