Wonderful Wordy Wednesday
Things have been quiet after a day of severe weather in Wisconsin. I only had rain, no issues, and rain was needed in the area. However to the north of me by about an hour tornadoes hit in the Menasha and Appleton areas. At one point over 120K customers were without power in the state. Thankfully no deaths or serious injuries.
My grass already looks a bit greener after than rain, amazing what an inch of rain can do for plants. Things were looking rather droopy at times, grassy brown and crispy.
Our group got together for trivia on Monday. We did about as good as we normally do, we always get at least a few questions that we have no clue. Questions on The Simpson TV show, none of us watch it or have ever watched it. Some movies too, as none of us are big movie watchers. Oh well, we have fun. However at least this week we won best name. Grateful We Are Not Dead.
Family of Spies - a true story that reads like a novel. The author relates the story of her grandparents, aunt and others who worked as spies for Germany and Japan during World War II. Specifically how they passed information in regards to Pearl Harbor.
1929 - an engrossing recounting of the people and events that led up to the stock market crash and subsequent economic downturn that became known as The Depression. Books follows the lives and actions of the major financial figures of that time leading up to the crash. Then afterward follows the actions that were taken to regulate both banking and investments through Wall Street.
When Everyone Knows That Everyone Knows - a serious look into what is known as common knowledge or common sense. Rather deep subject and hard to read, but interesting.
Hid From Our Eyes - Rev. Claire and Russ now have a baby boy. Russ is trying to figure out how a young woman died in the middle of the road. Eerily similar to how two other women did in nearly the same place 30 and 50 years prior. The town is having a vote on whether to keep the police department or have the state patrol take over. How will that affect Russ and Clare's future.

So many places need rain but not bad storms. I hope you get enough moisture to keep things from getting crisp again.
ReplyDeleteThe name for your trivia group is excellent, it reminds me of the John Cleese "I'm Not Dead Yet" tour he did to make money because he spent everything he earned off of his earlier work. I guess he figured he would be dead yet and didn't pace himself.
The book about common sense sounds amazing.
As someone who reads in bed at night I can relate to the need to go to bed early when I've got an especially good one on the go!
